Collin County Songwriters Assocation News

Collin County Songwriters Association News:

The CCSA Myspace home page now has three funny, thought-provoking, and not-very-flattering videos for your review and amusement. You will either want to join because this bunch is so much fun, or you’ll run away in disgust! Also check out great new photos from the Springfield, MO, TV shoot, taken by Johnna Burrows.

Crosswinds Jazz Band (the big band in which member Robert Leahey plays sax) will be presenting a benefit concert for the wife (Nancy) of their lead trumpet player, Brian Bass. Nancy was diagnosed with ALS four years back. Tickets are $15 and are available either from Robert or at http://www.crosswindsjazz.com/benefit/. 7pm, January 31, 2009 (don’t blink, that’s NOT New Years Eve). If you can’t make the show, go to http://www.crosswindsjazz.com/benefit/ you’ll also see an option for donating. Brian is also part of another great band, Urban Renewal.

The Black Prairie Band will perform Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Old Town Frisco Christmas Celebration in the Frisco Gazebo from Noon-1pm. Great Country/Classic Rock originals and covers.

2009 “Texas State Musician” nominee, Ryan Michael Galloway, returns with a surprise gig at Journeys Pub, inside The Zone, North Custer and Virginia Parkway in McKinney (northeast corner), 7PM, December 13. He will be joined by the Anna Thomas Band (http://www.annathomasmusic.com/). Please feel free to let Ryan know your Twitter url, so he can follow you (Ryan@RyanRocks.com). You can follow him at http://twitter.com/rmgalloway.

The Songwriter Saturdays series continues at the historic Chautauqua Auditorium in Waxahachie, hosted by new member and Dallas champion of performing songwriters, Randy Tredway. Michael “The Mudcat” Reames is scheduled to play. Song swap starts at 6PM, with the main acts starting at 7PM, performing half-hour shows. If you’re headed down to Austin or points south, this is worth the stop. It’s even worth the trip all by itself, if you’re up for a little adventure. Travel time is about an hour form Frisco.

Thursday Dallas Songwriter Association showcases continue every Thursday at The Filling Station, 19009 Preston Road, Dallas, at 7PM. The show is hosted by Steve Sullivan, DSA President.

Watch for Friday night performances at The Abbey on Frisco’s Main Street. A variety of musicians appear there, and they make a wicked desert—any of ‘em.
