Skype—for fun, and maybe for profit

Skype has been around for a while. It is an online website and application that most people use for making cheap international and long distance phone calls. This holiday season I've been using it for running video conferences with my family. It has worked pretty flawlessly, except for high volume times like Christmas day when everyone was trying out their new webcams.

I haven't fully tested the idea yet, but I wonder if Skype—and a few backup apps like video-enabled instant messengers—could be used as part of a business model. For instance, should I be using it for face-to-face mentoring sessions, one-on-one lectures, and maybe even guitar lessons or songwriting lessons?

I'd love to get your ideas and feedback on these thoughts. Have any of you used Skpe-like video conferencing in your business, small or large?

Have a great New Year, and keep thinking outside of the box.
